“Room geography”

December 2, 2006

Room geography (Jakle, Brunn, & Roseman, 1976) uses mapping to study how individuals distribute themselves across a given space.

From: Jakle, J. A., Brunn, S., & Roseman, C. C. (1976). Human spatial behavior: A social geography. North Scituate, MA: Duxbury Press.

A problem in characterizing activity spaces has been in integrating the time and space dimensions into the same analytical framework while maintaining an understandable graphical representation of the space-time geographies.

From: Tracy H. Newsome, Wayne A. Walcott and Paul D. Smith

  1. The same problems with mapping time and tool-usage in distributed learning systems emerged in iCamp study. This was solved by using the matrix of tools and the operations of the activity were mapped in timeline.
